General Operations Note:
After switching a car, turn the waybill to the next destination and place the car envelope with the service record facing the aisle in the "inbound" box.
Waybills in car envelopes with the car information side facing the aisle in the "outbound" box are ready to be switched into the consist.
Exceptions will be noted.
All other trains have priority over way freights.
Keep an eye on the clock and be prepared to have the main line cleared for passenger traffic.
Report any maintenance issues to the Dispatcher as soon as possible.
Dispatcher's decision is final.
Exodus
Eastbound freights originate in Exodus. Establish communications with the Exodus Yardmaster. Receive locomotive assignment and eastbound waybills from Yardmaster. Assign locomotive to throttle and check consist and braking system. Before leaving Exodus yard, the engineer and conductor will ensure that the cars that are in the consist are the cars they have car envelopes and waybills for. Report any discrepancies to the Exodus Yardmaster. Errors discovered after leaving the Exodus yard will be investigated and punished. The departure track and the run-around track are the only tracks authorized for use by a road switcher besides the necessary industry leads. The road switcher is not to interfere with the yardmaster's operations. Pickup any eastbound cars (see route listing above or on Timetable 36, posted at yard offices), spot any Exodus bound traffic at the assigned industry. After switching the Exodus industries and blocking the train, request clearance from the dispatcher before proceeding to Isaiah. Note: Any cars destined for Flagstaff should be spotted on the courtesy tracks at the next town after pickup.
Isaiah
Check for Jonah Junction and other eastbound cars on the team track siding just inside the Isaiah yard limits. The run-around and drill track are authorized for use by the road switcher. Be aware of the passenger trains leaving Exodus. Pickup any eastbound cars and spot any Isaiah bound traffic at the assigned industry. After switching the Isaiah industries and blocking the train, request clearance before proceeding to Jeremiah.
Jeremiah (Flagstaff team track spot)
Drilling the main is allowed, as long as the main is cleared for the scheduled passenger consists. Pickup any eastbound cars and spot any Jeremiah bound traffic at the assigned industry. Any cars bound for Flagstaff need to be spotted on the Sieple Bookbinding lead, between the grade crossing and the back side of Cartter's Coal. Car envelopes and waybills for Flagstaff traffic should be placed in the Jeremiah outbound box, without switching the waybill, with the information side of the car envelope facing the aisle. After switching the Jeremiah industries and blocking the train, request clearance before proceeding to Obadiah.
Obadiah North and South
Pickup any eastbound cars and spot any Obadiah bound traffic at the assigned industry. Obadiah is the site of a passenger train meet, normally scheduled between 1:00 pm and 1:20 pm. Keep this restriction in mind while spotting cars. Before and after this time frame, the outside (passing) track may be used for a drill track, while the inside track is used for the scheduled passenger runs. No motive power is allowed to operate within the Valley Power building. The use of an idler car is required for switching inside Valley Power. Any westbound cars still in the consist should be spotted on the drill lead between the main line and the industry lead. After switching the Obadiah industries and blocking the train, request clearance before proceeding to Jonah Junction.
Jonah Junction
Switching at Jonah Junction is a necessary evil since there is no passing siding at this location. It is best to have the Jonah Junction cars blocked at the front of the consist to facilitate efficient and safe spotting. After switching the Jonah Junction siding, request clearance before proceeding to Black Canyon Yard.
Black Canyon Yard
Prior to arrival at Black Canyon Yard, establish communication with the Black Canyon Yardmaster. Verify with the Black Canyon Yardmaster which drill track the eastbound freight is to occupy. Follow any and all instructions as may be passed on from the Yardmaster until the engineer and conductor are relieved. After eastbound consist is spotted, engine is to be released from throttle control. Car envelopes are placed in the appropriate drill track box. All waybills are returned to the dispatcher's office. If any waybills do not end at Black Canyon Yard, notify the dispatcher when returning the waybills.
